Australia humiliate sorry England

September 17, 2009 Sports No Comments

England’s batsmen failed yet again as Australia strolled to a 111-run win in the sixth one-day match to stay on course for an historic 7-0 whitewash.

Wicketkeeper Tim Paine struck 111 from 148 balls, sharing a 163-run third-wicket stand with Mike Hussey (65) in Australia’s 296-8 at Trent Bridge.

Andrew Strauss was given out to the second ball of England’s reply and two run-outs saw the hosts reduced to 60-4.

Tim Bresnan top-scored with 31 as England were out for 185 from 41 overs.

England’s abject display leaves them one defeat away from a 7-0 series whitewash, something which has never happened in international cricket.

Aston Villa stun Liverpool with Anfield win

August 25, 2009 Sports No Comments

(CNN) — Aston Villa produced a stunning dispay to win 3-1 at Anfield on Monday night as Liverpool slumped to their second English Premier League defeat in nine days, the same number that they lost in the whole of last season.

Villa’s first win of the season, and their first at Anfield since 2001, also ensured Liverpool lost their 31-match unbeaten home league record — which stretched back to December 2007 when Manchester United were the last winners.

A Lucas own goal and a Curtis Davies header saw Villa 2-0 up at the break. Fernando Torres pulled one back but an Ashley Young penalty settled the points.

Villa took a 33rd-minute lead when Young floated a free-kick towards the nearpost and Brazilian midfielder Lucas rose to head the ball past his own goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Leonard Chuene also said she had been treated like a “leper”.

South Africa’s ruling African National Congress earlier urged the country to rally round “our golden girl”.

Her family has also insisted she is female. “I know she’s a woman — I raised her myself,” the 18-year-old’s grandmother said.

Her mother Dorcus Semenya told the Star newspaper that doubts about her daughter’s gender were motivated by “jealousy”.
