Saltwater Master
Is this good for saltwater tank..?

Im starting up a saltwater tank i have the tank now im gonna buy the stuff tell me what i need and don’t need.

MarineLannd pnguin Biowheel FIlter

Instant Ocean salt

Saltwater Master Test Kit

Reef Master Test Kit

Hydrometer

Natures Ocean Marine White Sand

(i have a heater)

And coral

What else do i need?

Let just start off with If you have something smaller than a 55 gallon and you want salt. Don’t do it.
30 gallons is pushing it. 1 inch of fish per 10 gallons of water in saltwater tanks. So maybe like 3 fish max with 30 gallons.

I Honestly hope by “Coral” you mean fake corals like plastic decor. Cause if your doing a saltwater reef tank, with living coral, HELL NO! Sorry for being so blunt but you’ll kill it the second it gets in the water.

You can not just put a filter in a saltwater tank. and run coral and fish. Saltwater is much, much, much more complex then taking a freshwater tank and adding salt.

I’ll list out the items you must need with an coral reef system.

A Protein Skimmer – a must need for saltwater, if you don’t have don’t even consider saltwater.
An over flow box- You need this as well for any saltwater.
A sump with a wet and Dry Filter- You need this as well for any saltwater
Live rock – You won’t get coral in there unless you have this.

Basically a sump is a smaller fish tank under your main tank where water from the overflow box runs into a pipe and runs water into the sump. The water will trickle down the wet and dry filter which consist of filter floss and Bio Balls. This lets enough oxygen, to get in the water to grow the benificial bacteria for the nitrogen cycle. the when it drains from the wet/dry filter(also called trickle filter) It collects there. then the skimmer will be next to the trickle filter and the pulls all the proteins and waste out of the water, making it clearer. Then you have a return pump that pushed the water from the sump back into the top of the tank this is about a good 600gphpump and makes alot of movement at the surface so the Exchange of Gases acoccursnd puts oxygen into the water.
Some skimmers can be place in the sump or hanging on the back of the tank. The in sump skimmers work better. But if you cant fit it do over hanging ones.

You need to search online for these things.
Once you have your sand, rocks, sump, skimmer, overflow. You need lights.
You can jsutJustd regular light you need special ones if you are going to do corals. You need either T5′s light bulbs. The best of the best lighlight bulbs coral. Nothing beats them. You can also get Metal Halides are very bright and work good. If you can’t afford those get regular compact florescent bulbs.

Once your al set go to your locals Petco and buy something “Biozyme” its in a small red cup. Buy the one for saltwater. It basically benfbeneficialteria that you must put in to cycle your tank.
This bacteria starts the algealgaeom in about 5 days. You’ll see your tank turn white cloudy and really bad. Don’t worry this will go away in 3 days. It always happens when you have saltwater.

It will bloom once then go away once it goes away for the first time are ready to put in your first fish. I would suggest with something easy such as a Blue Damsel, Yellow-tailed Damsel, Or a Domino Damsel. They are very hardy and tough but not aggressive good for beginners it’s reef safe.

Reef-safe means it’s something that wont eat coral. Please Please Please understand coral is very hard to keep if you water is not Perfect they will die. Some are “easy” care level but when talking about coral if your water isn’t clean it’s hard.

Your coral wont grow though unless it’s on Live Rock. You can buy live rock online. The best types Are Figi or Carribean live rocks. These rocks act as surface area for the live bacteria inside to grow on them It also lets coral stick better to the rocks.

Please do some researching on a fish before you buy it A good palcplaceove to go for anything I need about coral or fish information is “Live Aquaria” Its a website just google it and You’ll get it. If you want to buy a fish search it find the water condition Temperature level temperament most importantly if its reef-safe.

Some fishes I suggest getting is Percula clown fish aka Nemo and a Yellow tang. Yellow tangs are bigger fish than your average blue damsel, or clowclown fishYellow tang though are one of the fishes that have special requirements. They are herbivores and only eat green. They will eat your normal fish flake food of course. but every 3 days please tie a peicpiecesea-weed.
(find this in any asian store, dried human edible seaweed is perfect as long as its not cooked. like the dried sheets of sea-weed they use is sushi if fine)

The reason to get this fish is because it eats the algae from your tank if it every gets green algae or hair algae. It’s a very good fish to have and very beautiful with it’s yellow body. It’s a msut. It is reef safe.

If you need anymore help, please I encourage you to email me.

$550-$1000, I know saltwater is expensive. I would only start it if you know you have a minimum for $1000 to use on it.

I advise getting T5′s they are expensive but go cheap on the other things not the lights. Coral will die secondthey aren’t happy with light
Your Welcome, Navin.
